❤️ How to register your camper
for PFC 2024

These are general guidelines for all instruments. Your most accurate registration helps us organize the 50 or so campers into groups before camp begins — very helpful!
Email us if you need assistance or guidance - we’re here!

  1. Determine your child’s playing ability - (Read This)

🎻 BEGINNER PLAYING ABILITY : 1-3 years of private study, Suzuki book 1, very young campers… age 6-8. Register your child for “Mixed Styles” (read below for explanation)

🎻🎻 INTERMEDIATE PLAYING ABILITY: 3-5 years of private study. Suzuki book 2 or above. Familiar with note reading, can pick up tunes fairly easily by ear. Usually campers age is between 9-12. If your child wants to chill and not be too challenged sign for “Mixed Styles” and they’ll be put into a more experienced class learning Mixed Styles. If your child is up for a challenge, select two different classes otherwise known as “Major” and “Minor.” Major and Minor classes will get equal instruction time.

🎻🎻🎻 ADVANCED PLAYING ABILITY: 5+ years of private study, Suzuki Book 3 or above, reads notes easily, some position work. Usually age 13 or above.
Select two different classes: A “Major” and a “Minor.” — Ask your child what they want to study! Major and Minor classes will get equal instruction time.

  2. 🎻 Explanation of “Mixed styles” and “Major & Minor”

“Mixed Styles” - Campers will have fun mastering easy-to-learn tunes of various fiddle styles specifically designed for their ability level. It’s like a 101 class in college…. introductory and engaging - Campers are going to sound like fiddlers!  Good for ages 6-9 or beginners up to age 11.

“Major & Minor” - These classes are for experienced players to explore two particular styles of music they’re most interested in. Major and Minor classes are taught by teachers whose expertise is in a particular style. Styles likely to change each summer. Campers will dive deeply into the sound & ornaments of the styles they choose. These tunes are often arranged so players experience playing melody, harmony, solos & back-up. (we’re music theory nerds so.. major and minor… get it?😂) Great for more advanced players age 10 - 16.

  3. 🎻 Ask your child what Major and Minor styles they want to study?

Returning campers often have an idea of what fiddle style they’re interested to explore. New campers are also likely to have an idea. PLEASE ASK YOUR CHILD and then sign them up! Remember to choose two styles! Equal time will be spent on each tune.

🎻 Sibling discounts & Scholarship applied at checkout 🎻

Please remember Fiddle Camp requires campers have at least 1 year of private lessons on their instrument.
We do not offer “technique coaching” at camp and it’s very important for each camper to have had time to master fundamentals so they feel successful and confident at camp!
